Women in Tech Weekly Issue Number 5
Happy Tuesday, friend! I hope you’ve had a great start to yet another wonderful week in your life 🙂
Let’s jump straight into:
Alison held her first workshop for Women In Tech Pittsburgh!
In her own words:
“Held a C++ workshop and taught music technology/ audio engineering at CISCO in Pittsburgh. Worked with young ladies to spark their interest in coding and tech and taught them how to remix music. They were shocked to know that STEM intersects with the work their favourite artists do.”
This is so awesome, Alison! You’re incredible in everything you do and this is another example of how awesome and creative your brain is ?
Yesterday was magical! We held our first WIT PGH workshop using relevant music to teach C++ / audio engineering at Cisco and I have never seen a group of students more engaged. They even came up to us afterwards to ask what software they could download to continue learning. Although women make up 20% of tech jobs nationally, they only make up 9.2% of music technology – an unfortunately decreasing statistic. So it felt really great to introduce them to another area of STEM that isn't a typical tech route and see their eyes light up while making an Ariana Grande remix. Major thanks to @djbamboo for helping✨

Dasani hosted a Girls Who Code Graduation Event!
In her own words:
“Me and @mkayak21 just hosted a graduation event for the Girls Who Code class we were leading! It was amazing to see all the parents of the students we taught and see out students share their accomplishments.”
Dasani, you go girl!! I’m so impressed by everything you do for your community, I can’t wait to see what’s next for you!
When you start something you naturally want to do things the way you envision it. It can be hard to let people in, but if you're able to they'll make your vision better in ways you could never imagine. When I first started running chapters of @girlswhocode I was doing it all alone. I had incredible volunteers help me out, but when it came to figuring out the vision, logistics and deciding what needed to be done I was on my own. But this year @mkayak21 and I ran it together! We bounced ideas off of each other and figured out the bigger picture together. The results were amazing! We finally launched the 1st chapter on @cwru campus (something I'd been trying to do on my own for 2 years) and hosted a graduation event to celebrate our Students' incredible accomplishments (check our their awesome projects in my bio) It was so humbling to see all our students talk passionately about their projects and hear the parents tell us how much their kids loved the program. This wouldn't have happened without Maya because it was her idea! We had some incredible volunteers: @mathboiraul @jesskwokers @mia.gorcz Maryam @anika.washburn , and amazing CS faculty members and our advisor Evren who we couldn't have done this without! (Also shout-out to @google & @girlswhocode for the funding). 📸 Credits: @gracefdai . . . #womenintech #womenwhobuild #girlsintech #girlboss #girlsinstem #girlswhocode #codelikeagirl #graduation #coding #codingisfun #code #coder #codergallery #codepeople #peoplewhocode #programming #programmerlife #programmer #ilooklikeanengineer #womenwhocode #computerscience #college #collegegirls #blackgirlscode #tech #devgirls #devlog #techgirl #girlswhocodeclub #codergallery

Aqsa is killing it studying Data Science and Coding!
“I am a badass woman who has shifted from Biotechnology to Data science and I have successfully completed my masters and got awarded for Making my name between the CS students.”
Yessss, you are a badass woman! You go girl! ?
Marcela has uploaded her Arduino course on Udemy and started a YouTube channel!
In her own words:
I finally put my Arduino course in the educational platform Udemy and started my youtube channel where I am speaking about educational projects, tech and my academic life.
I’ve been teaching since 2017 this technology and I have a dream which is using the tech to empower people and help everybody to change the world in a better place. I strongly believe that this combo Internet + Educational Projects is the best way to achieve this objective. If somebody wants to do this course, I have a discount“
This is so awesome, I’m sure it feels incredibly rewarding! Putting your stuff out there for the first time is the hardest step, now everything is going to get so much easier!

Eden has launched an Instagram account to bridge the gap between software engineers and the rest of the world!
In her own words:
“I often find myself using analogies to explain different tech concepts to my coworkers, friends, and family, and wanted to share them with the world. Through this account, I’m hoping that people will realize that software is not this big, scary, intimidating thing and that they feel it is much more within their reach (because it totally is!). Here’s a link to the account, website coming soon!”
Eden, this is so cool! I love the example below and I can’t wait to see your creativity shine in more posts like that one ?

15 Careers in Tech – What opportunities are there for me in tech? – shared by Itzel

Paper Oranges – shared by Dasani
“@xtineyweenie just launched Paper Oranges! The goal of Paper Oranges is to create a storytelling platform to elevate the voices of people who aren’t being heard enough. We want this community to allow others to express their perspective as we recognize the disparity in representation in stories. I’ve been helping her out and it’s amazing to see it finally happen! We are looking for more people to help us out (so please do join us!)”
Control your emotions using your body language
Probably one of the best ever created Ted Talks! Amy Cuddy talks about the magic of power poses (which work, I’ve tried them many times) and how by changing our body language we can change our hormones – and therefore change our attitudes. It’s a must watch for anyone:
I hope this was a good dose of inspiration for your Tuesday morning!!
I’m a little sick typing it all up so if there are any typos – I’m sorry! My brain is slightly cloudy at the moment ?
