Karina is the definition of a badass! By the age of 22, she has already managed to win countless competitions and challenges and created a name for herself in the sphere of UX in Brazil! About Karina
My name is Karina, I’m a 22 years old computer science student from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I participated for 2 years of the Apple Developer Academy program as an iOS developer, where I found out my passion for UX Design! Since them, I’ve been working as a full-time UX Designer in one of the biggest media-tech companies in Brazil. I’ve also won for 3 years in a row the Apple Scholarship for the WWDC (Worldwide Developers Program) in 2017, 2018 and 2019. Since February of 2019, I’ve been sharing my journey, knowledge and passion for tech and design in my Instagram, which is called @nina_talks, and it has been an amazing experience! <3
How did you get into tech?
I’ve always been passionate about technology! As a kid, I would stay all day playing videogames on the Playstion and my father’s PC, surfing on the internet, disassembling toys and uncovering software like Photoshop. During high school, I knew I wanted to work with technology, but I wasn’t sure about being a developer or a designer, so I became both 🙂
What languages/technologies do you have the most experience in?
The language I know the most is Swift, because of my years as an iOS developer in the Apple Developer Academy.
What are you currently learning/practising?
I’m currently practising more of my UX skills! But I’m also studying digital marketing, branding and new technologies.
What are your favourite resources to learn/stay updated on tech?
Medium, Instagram, Tech blogs, News apps.
What would people learn about by following you?
UI/UX Design, technology, creativity, branding and innovation.
What inspired you to start sharing your experiences on social media?
Friends and colleagues always asked me a lot about my college, my internship, how I went to Apple Conference and saw me as an inspiration since there are few girls in the tech industry. So I wanted to show more girls that it is possible to stand out in the tech world. And also since I’m always studying, reading books, watching TEDs, etc, I wanted to share more knowledge and motivate people to do more about their career.
